August was a busy month at B-Fit. We started off the month by bringing yoga back to B-Fit! I was so excited to be able to bring Peggy Snow, whom I have known for at least 20 years, in to teach beginner Yoga Flow at B-Fit twice a week. In the Spring of 2019, Peggy completed her 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training and became a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher. The classes Peggy teaches are on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30 PM.
We then turned our attention to Providence, RI for an educational seminar. Perform Better provides 4 opportunities a year for individuals or companies to attend their 3-day Functional Training Summit. This Summit provides many hands-on opportunities as well as lectures to learn from the best of the best in the fitness industry. We attended lectures on business strategies, fascia and connective tissue, and ways to improve the workout experience for the client. The hands-on classes were both educational and fun as we got to work on mobility with Gray Cook, MSPT, OCS and address physical limitations using assessments from Dr. Greg Rose of TPI (Titleist Performance Institute ). We also got to attend a very large excitement-filled workout with one of my mentors, Todd Durkin, who is a national motivational speaker, trainer to many pro athletes, and owner of Fitness Quest 10 in San Diego.
After being back home for about a week, I headed out to San Diego to attend my second class of the year with the CHEK Institute. I have joined the CHEK Academy in order to continue my education for the next 3-5 years with them to improve my abilities to assess clients and train them pain-free to improve their dysfunctions as well as help them get the results that they want faster. This class was previously called Exercise Coach Level 1 and is now called Integrative Movement Science Level 1, which describes the class much better than the previous name. We dove deep into assessing the body, testing for dysfunction, and addressing those dysfunctions with writing detailed programs that included mobility, stretching and exercise. The class was taught by Holistic Health Coach Ashley Mazurek of Tampa, Florida, and I can say the Academy as a whole has been the best thing that I have done to continue my education since I started training in 1998.
When you are looking to become better at what you are doing, no matter what it is, you always want to go to instructors or mentors that are doing it way better than you are, because growth can only come with being challenged.
I completed the class and passed the Integrated Movement Science Level 1 exam as well as the completing Holistic Lifestyle Coach Level 2 and passing the exam this year. Bob has also passed his recertification for Primal Blueprint Health Coach!
Our goal at B-Fit is to provide safe, challenging, fun workouts while simultaneously helping our clients improve their health and fitness levels so they can enjoy life to the fullest each day. Continuing our education in nutrition, human movement, and mindset will always be part of our yearly goals because it helps us provide the most complete coaching experience that we can at B-Fit.
It’s been a great August, and as we roll into September if you know someone that needs to improve their health, nutrition and or fitness level we would love to help! Have a great September!
