Celebrating 20 years!
I started B-Fit Personal Training in the basement of my home in 2001 when was living in
Winchester Park. I bought a treadmill, I had a bench, some dumbbells, and maybe a few other
odds and ends. We put up drywall, painted, and got the space ready for training. I wanted to have a place where I could train utilizing all the things that I had learned over the years, and I was mainly working with people who did not want to go to a gym or who did not belong to a gym.
I chose the name B-Fit because I had been in gyms for years and observed that many people
visited the gym and got a workout in but not many had a very high fitness level. My goal
when I started B-Fit was to be more intentional about helping clients improve their fitness level
along with their goals of getting stronger, losing weight, dropping bodyfat, and looking better.
In 2004 when I moved from Winchester Park I specifically looked for a house that had french
doors or patio doors to the outside so that the basement was light and airy and it ended up
being perfect for not only continuing to train but to build the business and make if full time.
I had been also training for NOLIN RECC and going to clients’ homes to train as well.
When my in-home business got busier I focused on it and stopped traveling to train.
As I incorporated more group training into the programming, I would have 5 people training in
my 600 sq ft space and when they were leaving I would have 5 more ready to go. About that
time we started looking for a space to move the business to and found our first location in the
Houchen’s plaza. With it being smaller we did most of the build-out ourselves and B-Fit was
now set for growth. With 4200 sq. ft, I bought more equipment to fit the space, and group sizes
grew.
Within about 2 1/2 years we were ready to grow again and decided on the nearby Family Dollar
Store space. Goff Construction did the build-out and the 7400 sq ft space became a beautiful
space in which to train and work. We incorporated massage rooms, a multi-purpose room for
yoga, pilates, as well as adding showers and infrared saunas to the locker rooms. Our 4000 sq. ft.
training area allowed for the training of larger groups of athletes as well as our large holiday
workout sessions. This space also gives us room to run group sessions, offer an open gym, and
have private sessions going on at the same time.
The 20 years have been an exercise in growth. Starting a business, growing a business, and
becoming a better leader have all presented challenges. Some challenges were met with great
results and others ended in failure, however, every experience brought growth with it.
I can say that providing information, guidance, and coaching to help others reach their goals of
improved health and fitness in a like-minded motivating community is more than I could have
asked for.
In celebrating 20 years of B-Fit I thank each and every person that has ever walked through the
doors and chose to receive coaching for whatever amount of time that you stayed. I thank
each person that has ever been part of the coaching and staff at B-Fit. I thank Bob Johnson for
many different ideas concerning technology, nutrition and for all the hours of training. And I am
thankful for the mentors and advisers that I have had along the way.
Everyone has played a role in the evolution of this business. I could not have done this
alone and am grateful to have the opportunity to continue to grow B-Fit with the purpose of
helping as many people as we can to have a better quality of life through improved nutrition,
fitness, sleep, and awareness.
Grateful,
Beverly
